Many builders use a kerf cut or plywood rim joist, but we have seen those fail within a few years. (We often get the call to fix other builder’s work).

A China Inspired Deck in Midhurst Ontario
A Chinese immigrant and her husband moved to Canada about 15 years prior. They loved the deck and patio design and we set about making it happen! Red cedar was used for the decking and fences. Only the field boards of the fence were prefinished, with the cedar left raw to wear to a grey patina. A hot tub was designed into the lower patio.
