Description
DIY Pergola Plans – P121
This pergola measures about 6′ x 10′ – a size that works well for most backyards. You can scale it larger, but going smaller isn’t recommended. While the design is shown in 2D, it’s straightforward to build in real life.
One standout feature is the laminated curved beams. These require patience, clamps, and the right adhesive (globally available), but the result is worth it: curves that last for decades.
We suggest redwood or red cedar for the best balance of beauty and longevity. For a budget build, pressure-treated lumber will work, though it won’t last as long.
Build Notes
-
DIY or Pro: You can tackle this project yourself or hire a carpenter.
-
Pre-finishing: Take time to finish all parts before assembly. Sealing end cuts is essential for durability.
-
Footings: Instructions include frost-proof footing details. For even more protection, coat the post bases with lamination glue before setting them in the ground.
-
Curves: Expect extra sanding and clamping when building the laminated arches, but they’ll outlast most other details.
