New Pergola Designs – With Roof Options!
New pergola designs for 2025! This was a series of 3 pergolas to fit within a roughly 12×12 space in a garden in North York just north of Toronto.
She wasn’t sure what she wanted, so we helped with ideas. These are all 3D renderings– not the completed project.
From the elaborate first version with retractable canvas canopy and laminated curved knee braces, to the more traditional and simple structure, we offered a variety of budgets.
In the end, she found a chandelier and a very oversized gate that required a total redesign… Stay tuned to see what we designed next!
This build likely won’t happen this year. The building department took about 2 months to even let us know if we needed a permit for her chosen design– so, unfortunately, she has delayed this project.
Roofing Options for a Pergola with a Roof
These new pergola designs show a couple of the options available for pergola roofs.
Retractable Canopy Roofs are a great option, however the roof structure needs to be built to allow them to be installed and function correctly. The awning droops between support members and there needs to be somewhere to mount the beam within.
Lighting needs to be considered as well. Up and down lights work well to add color to the canopy and you can support a pendant center light or 3 casting down from the exterior of the pergola.
Polycarbonate Roofs get applied atop the structure and can be used to create pergolas with a roof as well. They come in various tinted colors and allow natural light to come in.
These roofing materials have been used in commercial greenhouses for decades. Known as twin wall polycarbonate it has been proven to be durable and long lasting.
Lighting can be installed just like any room in the house from the ceiling structure and even a ceiling fan.
Consider a build up for a pergola with a polycarbonate roof to give it some shape and better drainage.
Curved roofs will shed water more effectively and polycarbonate roofing easily conforms to a curve.
A slightly pitched roof is necessary for polycarbonate… its all your choice.
