How Local Search Rankings Actually Work for Builders
One of the more persistent misunderstandings among small business owners is trusting the search results they see on their own device. Google personalizes results based on your account, location history, and network — which means the “top ranking” you see when you search your own business from your own computer is often not what a genuinely new customer sees.
To see your real, unbiased ranking, sign out of Google, clear your browser cache, and ideally search from a different network entirely (a friend’s house, a coffee shop). That’s the result that actually matters, because it’s the one a prospective client will see.
This applies to any local trade business, not just deck builders — if you’ve never checked your rankings this way, it’s worth doing before you draw any conclusions about your marketing.
