A cabana in Markham that started as a renovation turned into a bit of a showpiece! Integral Pergola, double pass through windows, kitchen with full size fridge, 2 piece bath, outdoor shower, change room and plenty of storage–what more could you ask for from a pool cabana?
Luxury Pool Cabanas and Outdoor Kitchen Design
For this luxury pool cabana in Markham, we paired rough lumber with clean moldings, and beige kitchen with a black backsplash to give it a classic look. Our designer planned this cabana with two roll-up windows. Roll up windows help with security and winterizing. A large black granite counter connects the kitchen to the outside of the cabana to create a bar-style seating area.
Ceramic tile now covers the concrete. We included a large storage room with 2 access doors at the rear of the cabana. Our design included an indoor pool pump and heater. We clad the equipment room with plywood for safety and installed the landscape lighting controls inside. The electrician added outlets all around the building. Cultured stone accents. A pergola off the front balances the hot tub pergola across the pool that features similar detailing.
This is a very upscale pool cabana with many upgrades. We used special cuts of lumber to prevent cracking, and finished everything including cabinets caulking and paint in-house.
This Unique Pool Cabana Started as a facelift~
This unique pool cabana started as a renovation of an existing structure in Markham. We discovered that the lowest 6″ of the frame had rotted from moisture. The design is so important when it comes to pool cabanas. The previous architect had designed a cabana that flooded the interior floor every time they winterized the pool equipment. On top of that, the previous landscape contractor installed the interlock too high. Since the interlock was flush with the top of the slab, during heavy rain, the interior of the structure was getting wet.
Our solution is to cap the foundation with another 3 or 4 inches of concrete and add floor drains. We insulated the structure with modern foam fill insulation. We added a proper kitchen (bar) with a full-size fridge. With the taller roof profile storage space was utilized above the washroom. We also created and a separate change room with a custom bench and trims to match the home.
Cabana Kitchen – Stand Up Bar
This client already had the outdoor kitchen, so he decided that interior space would be an indoor styled kitchen with a full sized fridge with stand up bar. There is no grill or stove in this kitchen–it is more of a prep area. Better to describe this as a cabana bar rather than an outdoor kitchen.
When rebuilding any structure you may require Building Permits. Contact your local building department for their requirements.
