A Deck and Gates inspired by a Chinese Temple
These clients near Baby Point (Etobicoke ) requested a Chinese temple inspired outdoor living space.
What we came up with is a fairly unique combination of Deck, Patio, privacy panels and open trelliswork to the east. The tight Etobicoke neighbourhood means neighbors are right on top of you, so privacy is at a premium. In researching Chinese Temples one thing in common among all were the large doors opening towards another wall– a defense mechanism. Invaders would be attacked from both sides during their entrance to the temple, thus, making things difficult! The Oriental curved roofs atop the screens were also a unique feature.
Black granite was used for the patios, and the tub was installed on the lower patio. We planned for torches, a grass wall in large pots between the deck and patio but much of this had to be dispensed with to meet a fairly tight budget.
I returned a couple of times to see if they had finished stain, but unfortunately each time the yard was less maintained than the last.
